Our name stems from our shared studio, number 004 in the Borgerstraat studio complex in Rotterdam.
As a collective, we have developed a body of work of installations in which we use our own work – as well as work by other artists – to make a new statement and thereby redefine the work. Usually, this takes the form of a space-related installation in our studio, which then transforms into a public exhibition space from time to time, and sometimes unfolds at other locations. With our common work, we advocate an art perception with a focus on the relational field. We offer an immersive staging of exhibition furniture, objects and murals. The individual works of art are actors in a space of experience. Instead of a frontal placement, like in a museum setting, the works are interwoven into a reasoned whole.

In our individual practices, we work with books (essays) and book objects (works of art), archives and collections, among other things, whereas in our collaborative installations, we thematise display and synergy between works. We have also produced a series of publications that highlight the content and visual aspects of artisthood and self-organised art practice – focusing on the work and conditions of production. We propagate the idea of the cooperative, with the community as a crucial factor in production and reception.
